 Note:  Cleo was a cousin to Fannie HUGHES. All of US and Cleos' children were
       born in Rutherford, Gibson Co TN., except for Margarette, who was born in
       Crockett Co TN.

        US Grant Vernon was a farmer, but lost his farm in the Great Depression.
       He became a teacher and then a salesman. Later he worked as a guard at
       the Jackson TN Coca-Cola plant, where he was attacked and killed by two
       men, one of whom he had befriended by securing a job.

        His daughter, Margarette, a nurse, was on duty at the hospital when he was
       brought in.
