notes: The Offill name is spelled in many ways, a fact which I often considered
as indicative of a non-English origin. Some of the ways for spelling the
name include Offield, Aufil, and Oppill. All of these are believable
spellings by an English clerk of the German Apfel, meaning "apple."
In 1755, William and Mary resided in Broomfield Parish, Culpeper Co., VA.
He witnessed the Will of Michael ELLETT, dated 5 OCT 1756 in
Orange Co VA. He patented 2000 acres of land in Orange, Rockingham
and Page Counties.

notes: David VAWTER died at Abelmarle during the Rev. War. Mary remarried to
James RENFROW and moved to Kentucky.
Jesse VAWTER was drafted in Culpeper Co VA, and served only a few months
in the Revolutionary War.
Trained as a mechanic and carpenter, Jesse VAWTER took his family towards
the frontiers of North Carolina, Kentucky and Indiana in successive moves
from the 1780s to around 1806. His family were pioneers in Jefferson County,
Indiana from its formation, often serving in public office.
